- Art Antics are having their first ever group exhibition! Head to see Peely-Wally from Fri 9 February and discover lots of colourful artworks on their normally-white walls.
- Spend your Valentine’s Day with Hotchpotch and an evening of spoken word wonder at their next monthly open mic night on Wed 14 February.
- Arts Workers for Palestine Dundee and GENERATORprojects continue their film screenings and gatherings in the spirit of cultural exchange and solidarity with Palestine on Tue 13, 20 and 27 February.
- Artist Mysterious Cube brings to life the Hairy Hand of the Ardler Multis in a series of linoprints inspired by local urban legend… Find The Ardler Stairwells at Volk Gallery until Fri 8 March.
Events
- Dundee Art Society are back with more free monthly art talks! This month Jolene Guthrie of Jo-AMI joins them on Sat 17 February to explore her modern take on traditional Scottish knitwear.
- Games industry workers of all levels are invited to join the next Dundee Games Meet-up with Hubworld on Fri 23 February to connect with other game developers at this relaxed social night out!
- Join Dundee’s Changemakers Hub for their next Food for Change event at Whitfield Community Garden on Sun 25 February and enjoy a delicious lunch alongside some music, games, and conversation.
- Agency of None and the University of Dundee’s design team are hosting the first out-of-house Open House on Wed 28 February. Join them for breakfast and chats – open to anyone interested in or working in design!
Workshops
- Join Leisure & Culture Dundee to explore the future of Dundee’s Culture Strategy and sector and how it contributes to the city’s ambitions at open workshops throughout February.
- The City Flowers Garden Studio will open its doors on Sat 10 February as a new community art studio and garden! Join them on Sat 17 February for a workshop with textile artist Sandra Junele.
- Head to the Print Studio at DCA on Sat 17 February for an all-day Introduction to Mono Printing workshop with printmaker Anupa Gardiner, exploring various print techniques and specialist equipment.
- Spring is arriving at the Maxwell Garden! Join them for lots of free events including a Herbs for Health workshop on Mon 19 February, and a Plan your Food Garden workshop on Thu 29 February.
Opportunities
- Escape to the country with the new Burnieshed Residency, open to UK-based contemporary artists with a focus on ecology. Applications close on Fri 16 February.
- Forgan Arts Centre are recruiting for two Lead Artists to design and deliver their Children’s Art Club during Fife school holidays. Apply for the role before midday, Mon 19 February.
- The Royal Scottish Academy are welcoming artists at all stages of their careers to submit work for their 198th Annual Exhibition. Submit your work in any fine art medium before Wed 21 February.
- Masters student Joanna Laing is seeking ‘doodles and masterpieces’ for her University of Dundee research project exploring the connections we feel to certain spaces. Draw your Dundee and the places that mean something to you to get involved.
Exhibitions
- Showing at Gallery48 from Thu 1 February; Dundee-based multidisciplinary artist and writer Dana Leslie presents ‘traces of us‘, a new exhibition of her photography and printmaking work.
- GENERATORprojects are back with their annual ‘Members Show‘, opening on Sat 17 February and including a wide range of work across mediums from their talented members!
- Dundee-based artist and maker Joseph Donald lights up Nomas* Projects with new exhibition ‘Lamps‘ showing now until March with an online Artists’ Talk, Sun 10 March.
- The beautiful Dundee Tapestry is now on display V&A Dundee until the end of April. Over 140 volunteers have created 35 hand-stitched tapestries threading together the story of Dundee, from the women who shaped the city to the art created here.
