- Elfie Picket Theatre are back for a festive BLETHER – a night dedicated to Scots Language performance with music, poetry, spoken word and more on Sat 7 December.
- Join The Space Between, a traditional storytelling session with Erin Farley on Thu 12 December, for tales of standing stones and sacred landscapes from Angus to Orkney.
- Calling all sonic makers! Dundee Radio Club are taking submissions for their first digital broadcast, looking for sound-based artworks, interviews, music sessions, storytelling and more. Respond to their Open Call before midnight, Mon 30 December.
- It’s the most wonderful time of the year at Double Door Studios as they host their Festive Boutique on Saturdays, Sundays & Tuesdays throughout December. Browse and buy from an amazing line-up of local businesses including DDS’ resident makers.
Events
- Before ‘Soft Impressions’ opens, join DCA on Fri 6 December for an exhibition preview and Meet the Artists event with Helen Cammock, Ingrid Pollard, and Camara Taylor.
- Join ScrapAntics for their Winter Gathering on Sat 7 December! Head to their Community Space at the Wellgate for an afternoon of fun activities and delicious food – free and open to all!
- It’s time for the last Hotchpotch of the year! Get involved at this open-mic event on Wed 11 December and perform your own written work or join one of the friendliest audiences around.
- There’s still time to grab your tickets for Dundee Rep’s winter show, Oor Wullie, before its run ends on Mon 30 December! Packed with catchy tunes and cheeky capers, it’ll be a hit with the whole family.
Workshops
- If you’re quick, you can still book a space to join The Greenshed Flower Studio for their Dundee Festive Wreath Workshop on Wed 4 December. Enjoy an evening of festive making, fizz and delicious canapés.
- Join Cooper Gallery on Thu 5 December for movement-based workshop Erotics of the Earthworm, exploring how we navigate exhibitions and are ‘moved’ by ideas, objects and materials.
- The team at Ninewells Community Garden are getting into the festive spirit! Join them on Tue 17, Wed 18, Thu 19 or Fri 20 December and learn how to create a beautiful, natural wreath from scratch.
- Head to Dundee Ceramics Workshop on Sat 14 December for their Handbuilding Winter Trees workshop and create your very own handmade forest to display during the winter months or all year round!
Opportunities
- Dundee Changemakers Hub are offering six microgrants up to £1,000, to help Dundee groups with a climate project in their neighbourhood! Apply as soon as possible with applications considered on a a first-come first-served basis.
- Community groups and organisations can apply for the 2024/2025 Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund to support new and ongoing projects that tackle mental health inequalities and provide opportunities for people to connect. Apply before midnight, Sun 15 December.
- Early career artists can now apply for the DCA print Studio x Jerwood Residency, offering a four-week, fully-funded residency to explore and expand their practice through print. Applications close Fri 20 December.
- Applications are now open for Hospitalfield’s Interdisciplinary Residencies 2025. These self-funded residencies are open to anyone working across the arts with urgent projects to address or who require time to focus on a specific area of development. Apply before midnight, Sun 5 January 2025.
Exhibitions
- There’s lots of artwork to see and purchase at Dundee Art Society’s Winter Exhibition, running until Sat 7 December and showcasing the huge variety of work created by their talented members.
- Engage in some auto-poetic play by the graveside with Shetland-based Artist, Poet & Bog-Witch Belladonna Paloma’s exhibition ‘The Grave in Full Vigour‘, running at Generator Projects until Sun 15 December.
- Now open at V&A Dundee; discover the connection between land, language, and architecture, taking a journey through three Scottish landscapers in ‘A Fragile Correspondence‘.
- Dundee’s Designer Christmas Trees are back – this year with four new trees created by local designers and artists! Each tree has its own story and is made from 100% reused or recycled materials. Visit the trees while they’re on display at City Churches throughout December.
